Barcelona has two main cable cars offering spectacular city and sea views. They’re both easy to reach from the city centre and make for a memorable experience. Here’s everything you need to know about each one, including directions, prices, and what you can see from above.

Montjuïc Cable Car (Telefèric de Montjuïc)
This is the newer more modern cable car, which takes you up from Montjuïc Hill to the Montjuïc Castle, with incredible views over Barcelona, the harbour and the Mediterranean Sea.
Location and Access
- If you are using the Barcelona Bus Turístic Hop on Hop off, one of the stops is close by.
- The base station is near Parc de Montjuïc, just above Paral·lel Metro Station (Lines L2 or L3).
- From La Rambla, it’s about a 20–25 minute uphill walk, or:
– Take the Metro to Paral·lel and transfer to the Montjuïc Funicular (included in the metro ticket).
– Or take a short taxi or bus ride (Bus 150 goes up Montjuïc Hill).


Prices
- Adult: €10 one way / €15 return
- Child (4–12): €8 one way / €11.50 return
- Tickets available at the station or online at telefericdemontjuic.cat.
Duration and Stops
• The ride lasts about 7–10 minutes each way.
• There are three stops:
1. Parc de Montjuïc (base)
2. Miramar viewpoint
3. Castell de Montjuïc (top)

What You Can See
• Panoramic views over the Barcelona skyline and coastline.
• Landmarks like Sagrada Família, Torre Glòries, and Montjuïc Stadium.
• The Port of Barcelona and the Mediterranean.
• On clear days, distant hills like Tibidabo and Collserola.
At the Top – Montjuïc Castle Area
• Explore Montjuïc Castle (entry around €9) and enjoy 360° views from the ramparts.
• Stop for a drink at the castle café terrace.
• Visit nearby gardens and museums, such as the Joan Miró Foundation and MNAC Art Museum.
• Walk back down to the city in about 30–40 minutes, with great views along the way. There is also an outdoor bar with a view part way down, where you can get to enjoy a drink, watch some local games in the fields below, and generally just enjoy the view.

• Winter (November–March): 10:00 – 18:00
• Open daily, weather permitting.


Port Cable Car (Transbordador Aeri del Port)
This is the historic red cable car that crosses the harbour from Barceloneta Beach to Montjuïc Hill. It offers thrilling views directly over the sea and port area.
Route and Access
• Runs between Torre Sant Sebastià (Barceloneta) and the Miramar viewpoint on Montjuïc.
• The station is near Barceloneta Beach, about a 25-minute walk from La Rambla.
• The ride takes around 8–10 minutes one way.
Prices and Notes
• One-way ticket: about €13 (no return option).
• You can walk or taxi back down afterward.
• The ride is older and more exposed to wind but very scenic.
What You Can See
• Stunning views over Barcelona’s port and beaches. These are more dramatic
• The city skyline, Montjuïc Hill, and the Mediterranean Sea.
• Particularly beautiful at sunset or early evening.
Tips for Visiting
• Go early morning or around sunset for the best light and fewer crowds.
• Bring water and wear comfortable shoes—Montjuïc Hill has many walking paths.
• Combine the ride with visits to Montjuïc Castle, MNAC, or the gardens.
• If you take the cable car up, consider walking down for scenic city views.
